Water Department updates- secondary water map
March 10, 2011
I am frequently asked about the timeline for having secondary water in Herriman. Tonight we held the public hearing to receive comment with regard to the proposed issuance by Herriman City of Water Revenue Bonds, in the amount not to exceed $7 million. A significant portion of these funds will be used to get our secondary system online.
Luke Sieverts from our water department came to our city council meeting tonight and shared this presentation: HCMW Powerpoint Presentation 03102011
Of special interest to residents are some of the details surrounding the areas that will be receiving secondary water next year.

When will secondary water be offered to the residents on Emmeline dr? The map looks like the secondary water will stop at the middle school. Is this as far north as it is going to go? Is there plans to increase the current radius?
Thanks
Secondary water will be available to residents along Emmeline Drive. Secondary water will also be available in phase 1 as far west as the Cove and as far east as Juniper Point subdivision. I support increasing our service in the future. The timing of this increase will depend on our rate study analysis. I have a desire to increase service as we pay off the bond for the installation of the infrastructure. More will be forthcoming. I anticipate that by November we will have more information and I will post it as I receive it and as the council works on determining water rates.
Thanks Mike!!
Do you know if or when the secondary water line will be brought over to the Hamelton Farms subdivision? Thank you
Christopher-
The timetable for expanding the secondary system remains to be seen. Much depends upon the philosophy adopted by the council with respect to the rate schedule. The monies charged to residents for using our culinary and secondary system will be used to not only deliver services, but to pay the debt (the bond) on the entire system.
A more aggressive rate schedule for secondary users will speed up the time with which we can increase our service area to subdivisions such as Hamilton Farms. The problem with this is that if we charge too much, we could see a decrease in usage, thereby limiting our ability to bring in the revenues necessary to pay the bond and increase our coverage. I am hoping to hit a “sweet spot” with respect to our secondary rates whereby residents who use secondary water will find their water bill reduced – yet with enough revenues brought in by users so that we can pay the bond and increase our coverage in a fast fashion.
The city council will set the rates, and when we do, I will make our decision available. Prior to this I will also make it known when we do have the meetings to solicit your input. This decision affects all of us here in Herriman, those in the current coverage footprint as well as those who will receive secondary water in our next phases.
I am building a home in the Valley View Community on Palo Alto Drive my builder assures me that the secondary water lines have been run however the city has yet to charge them. Will they be charged come spring or do I need to plan on using drinking water for my lawn?
Thanks
Dave-
If your home is within the footprint of our secondary system

you will have secondary water in the spring. As we have more information I will make it accessible here on this website and Herriman City will also disseminate information on its Facebook page as it becomes available. Some of the information you can expect in the future would include dates on instruction for how to connect to the system, specific dates as to when the system is online, and a rate schedule. Thanks for asking and we will keep in touch!
I water all my plants, trees, bushes and lawn with a drip system. Is the secondary water going to be clean enough to water all these without plugging up my watering tubes? If not are we required to hook up to and/or pay for secondary water?
The secondary water system is planned to be filtered to 200 micron. This should alleviate most problems associated with clogging. You are not required to hook into the system, but those in the secondary coverage area will be charged a monthly base fee whether they are connected or not. The collection of this base fee will begin in October of 2012.
